Location of Überm Rost in Bergisch Gladbach |
Überm Rost is a district in the city center of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The name Überm Rost is based on the old name of the tub, Über dem Ross , which the cadastre from 1869 records in the area of today's street. The field name referred to the medieval settlement Am Roß , which was first documented in 1582. The farm, which went under in 1890, had 28 inhabitants in 1858. The Bergisch Gladbach town hall stands around this point today .
etymology
The settlement name is probably derived from the Middle High German rooze (= hemp, flax roast ) and denotes an iron grate on the river or stream. Here (on the Strunde ) the flax stalks could be subjected to a rotting process in the water (see flax rotting ).
