Rommerscheid is a district in the Stadtmitte district in Bergisch Gladbach . In addition, this name is a street that leads from Odenthaler Strasse up the mountain to the Rommerscheider Höhe strait. In Rommerscheid is the church of St. Engelbert, planned by Bernhard Rotterdam, with a listed altar cross.

history

The street was named in 1918. The name goes back to the medieval settlement name Rommerscheid, which was transferred to the access street in the town center with the appearance of the street names. The settlement was first mentioned in 1345 as Rommerscheit . The semicircular road in the historic center is mentioned in the original cadastre as a route from Gladbach to the Igeler Hofe (Rommerscheider Höhe). 1510, the first time Rommerscheider Hof listed northeast of the hamlet in a document which is owned by the Coming of the Johanniter in Herrenstrunden (now Malteser Komturei) found. In 1830 the village had 16 inhabitants. Rommerscheid had 120 inhabitants in 1858 and by 1905 had developed into one of the largest settlements in the urban area with 33 houses and 179 residents.
