Gohrsmühle is a district in the city center of Bergisch Gladbach . Today the Zanders paper mill is located here .

history

The Gohrsmühle settlement owes its name to the von Gohr family , who operated a paper mill here from 1654 to 1731. It was built at the beginning of the 17th century by Stephan Jakobs on the basis of the old "cheese bread" . Previously, in 1602, he had received a concession to build a paper mill with two barrels. His granddaughter Johanna Jakobs and her husband Heinrich von Gohr acquired the mill in 1652, which was subsequently called Gohrsmühle from 1654 . Her grandson Johann Jakob von Gohr married Anna Helena Fues from the Quirlsmühle in 1720 . Until the premature death of her husband, Anna Helena Fues ran the mill alone, until she married her cousin Wilhelm Aurelius Fues in 1737 and continued to run the mill with him. Due to excessive indebtedness, the Fues family had to lease the mill to the Zanders company in 1865 and then sell it to them in 1868. The Zanders paper factory set up the company's headquarters on the Gohrsmühle site , which will continue to be maintained there.

Todays situation

The Gohrsmühle is the nucleus of today's Zanders paper factory . In memory of this, the city of Bergisch Gladbach named the bypass road along the entrance to the company in An der Gohrsmühle as part of the redesign of the traffic routes in the city center .

Watermark

The well-known Gohrsmühle writing paper of the same name shows the coat of arms of the Zanders family as a watermark. The Gohrsmühle watermark was registered as a registered trademark at the German Patent Office in Munich in 1895.
