Remy Le Boeuf (born August 3, 1986 in Santa Cruz (California) ) is an American jazz musician ( alto saxophone , composition , also soprano saxophone , clarinet , flute , oboe ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Remy Le Boeuf moved to New York City in 2004, where he regularly appears as a band leader, sideman and (with his twin brother Pascal Le Boeuf ) co-leader of Le Boeuf Brothers . He received his Bachelor and Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music ; he also studied philosophy and anthropology at Columbia University . The first recordings were made in 2009 when he played with the Manhattan School of Music Jazz Orchestra and Dave Liebman (as a guest soloist), as well as in the big band Jeff Fairbanks' Project Hansori .

In 2011 he received a composition commission from Chamber Music America for new jazz compositions in order to write a large chamber work based on the short stories by Franz Kafka . In addition, he has received six grants from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA), the Young Jazz Composer Award from the ASCAP Foundation, the grant from the New York Community Trust Edward & Sally Van Lier, and (partly together with his brother) several Down Beats Student Awards. He was also recognized for Best Jazz Album at the 2006 Independent Music Awards ; In 2007 he was the winner of the West Coast Songwriters Song Contest in the jazz category . Le Boeuf has performed throughout his career at Carnegie Hall , the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Kennedy Center ; he toured internationally with the Le Boeuf Brothers ensemble .

After the album In Praise of Shadows (released in 2011 by Nineteen-Eight Records) he recorded the album Imaginist with Le Boeuf Brothers in 2014 , which was nominated for a Grammy . According to Tom Lord , he was involved in five recording sessions in the field of jazz between 2009 and 2015, most recently with Jonathan Saraga ( Journey to a New World ). Tivon Pennicott (tenor saxophone), Rick Rosato (bass) and Jochen Rückert (drums) currently play in the quintet Le Boeuf Brothers , which he leads with his twin brother (piano ). Le Boeuf combines jazz with classical, indie rock and electronic influences.
