René Paresce
René Paresce (Renato Herbert Paresce, born January 5, 1886 in Carouge , Switzerland , † October 15, 1937 in Paris , France ) was an Italian physicist , painter and journalist .
biography
René Paresce's father was an Italian from Palermo and his mother, Lidia Ignatieff, was the daughter of a Russian businessman. He spent his childhood and youth mainly in Florence . He first studied at the Istituto tecnico industriale Leonardo da Vinci . He then studied physics at the University of Bologna and finished his physics studies in 1911 at the University of Palermo . He became a science teacher at the Collegio alla Quercia in Florence.
Paresce began to paint as an autodidact and befriended the painter Baccio Maria Bacci (1888–1974). He also worked as a translator for French and Russian. In 1912 he married the pianist Ella Klatschko (1880–1966), daughter of the Russian-Jewish revolutionary Samuel Klatschko . In 1912 the couple moved to Paris. There René Paresce met modern painters such as Paul Cezanne , Pablo Picasso , Diego Rivera and Amedeo Modigliani . During the First World War he moved to England , where he worked on research at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington .
After the war he worked as a journalist at the Versailles Conference and worked for Il Giornale d'Italia and later for La Stampa . He also wrote art critical articles. In 1926, at the invitation of Margherita Sarfatti , he took part in the Novecento Italiano exhibition in Milan. He also exhibited in Venice , Zurich and Paris . In 1931, invited by the Parisian art critic Jerzy Waldemar Jarociński (Waldemar George, 1893-1970), he showed his works at the exhibition of Italian painters in the Salon de l'Escalier in Paris. In 1934 he went on a trip around the world, stopping in Fiji , then crossing the United States . He wrote travelogues for La Stampa , which appeared in a 1935 book called L'altra America .
