Renae Nicole Cuéllar Cuéllar (born June 24, 1990 in Bellflower , California ) is a former American football player of Mexican descent.

Career

Equipped with two citizenships , the female soccer player chose the national team of her ancestors while maintaining the center of her life in La Puente , California . From 2008 to 2012 she played with the Arizona Wildcats, the team at the University of Arizona .

In the 2013 season she played in the newly founded National Women's Soccer League , the highest American professional league in women's football, initially for FC Kansas City . On April 13, 2013 she scored the first goal in the history of the NWSL in the game against Portland Thorns FC (final score 1: 1). On July 1, she was signed by league rivals Seattle Reign FC. Immediately after the last game day of the regular season Cuéllar left Seattle and joined the Swedish second division club Sundsvalls DFF on loan , for whom they played twice in the remaining games of the season and scored one goal. For the 2014 season it was assigned to the Washington Spirit franchise , a year later it was no longer in the Mexican allocation pool. Cuéllar played for the second division club BV Cloppenburg from August 2016 , before ending her career in November 2016 due to pregnancy.

Career

She made her first international match for Mexico on December 9, 2009 against China . In 2010 she took part with the U-20 team in the 2010 U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany , where she was used in four games and scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win against England. In the 3: 3 against Japan she scored two goals, one of them for the Japanese. She was not nominated for the 2011 World Cup and the 2014 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup . But she is part of the Mexican squad for the 2015 World Cup in Canada.

Personal

Her son Romeo Matías Alvarez was born on April 7, 2017. The child's father is the American-Mexican soccer player Carlos Alberto Álvarez , who is under contract with Los Angeles FC .
