National Women's Soccer League 2014 / Player Allocation
In the National Women's Soccer League Player Allocation ( Engl. Allocation of players ) before the 2014 season the nine participating in the NWSL were franchises 50 internationals assigned to the United States, Canada and Mexico. The football associations of the United States , Canada and Mexico had, like last year, agreed to the content of these players in place to take over the assigned clubs. The results of the assignment process were announced on January 3, 2014.
process
The three participating football associations selected 26 (United States), 16 (Canada) and eight (Mexico) national players who were to play in the NWSL with financial support from their home associations. The aim of this approach was to keep the team budgets of the franchises represented in the NWSL manageable and still ensure that the national players of the associations involved would be able to play and play in the newly founded professional league. Compared to the previous year, the US Football Association increased its quota by three players, while the Mexican Association halved the number of players it sidelined. The number of Canadian players remained unchanged. The inclusion of Houston Dash as the ninth NWSL franchise in December 2013 apparently had no impact on the size of the allocation pool . This led to a certain imbalance in terms of national proportional representation during the allocation.
The result of the assignment was announced on January 3, 2014. The newly founded Houston Dash franchise was assigned only three players (one from each national contingent), and a so-called expansion draft was carried out on January 10th to compensate for the numbers of the squad .
Result
The main reason for the resulting imbalances in allocation were player transfers during and after the 2013 season. While most of the US and Canadian players stayed with their franchises from the previous season (or after transfers with their new franchises), the Mexican players became completely new distributed. In addition, some players who had not been able to assert themselves in the 2013 season or who had declared their career end were replaced by the national associations.

consequences
On January 10, 2014, a so-called expansion draft was carried out in which the Houston Dash franchise was allowed to choose up to ten players from the squads of the other NWSL franchises, including up to four of the national players originally assigned to other franchises.
One week after the expansion draft, the 2014 college draft is scheduled to take place on January 17, 2014 .
