National Women's Soccer League 2014 / College Draft
The NWSL College Draft 2014 was carried out for the second time on January 17, 2014 as part of the annual NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis . Representatives of nine in NWSL - season 2014 participating franchises were able to college players take under contract in four rounds. In contrast to the previous year, the event was open to visitors.
process
The basis for the original draft order was the final table of the 2013 regular season in reverse order; Washington Spirit , last year’s bottom, would have had the first access in all draft rounds. However, a special regulation had to be found for the expansion franchise Houston Dash , which had only started its squad planning at the end of 2013. This received the second pick in the first draft round and the first in all subsequent rounds. All other teams moved back one position accordingly. During or after the 2013 season, various options were also used as a deposit for player transfers, so that the actual picks sometimes deviated significantly from the original order. Another consequence of these swaps was the severe imbalance in the number of picks available to the teams in the course of the draft: FC Kansas City and the Boston Breakers could each select six players, while the reigning champions Portland Thorns FC only had two.
