The De Amsterdam is a cabin passenger ship built in 1990/91 as Clara Schumann for Viking River Cruises in Basel . Like all of the company's ships, it was registered in Oberwesel. The ship was in service from 1991 to 2000 for the Cologne-Düsseldorfer . The ship has been sailing for Best-BikeTours since 2017. She is the structurally identical sister ship of Theodor Fontane .

history

Clara Schumann at the Magdeburg pier

After the fall of the Wall , the Cologne-Düsseldorfer conducted a test run from Hamburg to Dresden from June 2 to 7, 1990 in order to open up the Elbe for future river cruises with the St. Caspar ship from Tours Incomming GmbH in Düsseldorf . After the knowledge gained, the shipping company, in cooperation with the propulsion manufacturer Schottel and the shipyard De Biesbosch, planned a cabin passenger ship which, thanks to the installation of ballast water tanks, should be usable even when the water level on the Elbe is low . After model tests that were carried out in the research institute for inland shipping in Duisburg , an order was placed on July 24, 1990 for two identical ships with 64 passenger cabins. The keel of the ship manufactured under construction number 842 was laid in August, the launch on February 16, 1991. From April 18 to April 21, the completed shell was transferred from Amsterdam to Hamburg with Condock III , a self-propelled dock ship , where the final equipment took place with the help of the pit shipyard . From May 1 to May 7, 1991, the ship drove to Dresden on its own, where it was christened on May 11 by Countess Giulia Gori-Mazzoleni in the name of her great-grandmother Clara Schumann . During the subsequent four-hour maiden voyage , the shipyard was handed over to Elbe-Kreuzfahrten GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Köln-Düsseldorfer. From May 15, 1991 she was deployed in the plan service between Magdeburg and Dresden. The ownership of Clara Schumann was transferred on August 28, 1997 to KD Deutsche Flusskreuzfahrten GmbH, which started using the ship from 1999 on the extended route from Lauenburg / Elbe to Ústí nad Labem . When Premicon AG became the main shareholder of Köln-Düsseldorfer on March 9, 2000 , Viking River Cruises took over the company's river cruise business, including all ships used there. This did not change the area in which Clara Schumann was deployed . From 2010 to the beginning of 2011 the ship was completely modernized. It was then marketed by the organizer under the name Viking Schumann , although it was not renamed.

The ship was sold in 2017. It was subsequently marketed by Best-BikeTours, initially under the name Lale Andersen and since 2018 under the name De Amsterdam .

Equipment and technology

The Clara Schumann is a three-deck cabin ship of the 4-star category with 48 double cabins of 11 m² and 8 deluxe cabins with 15 m² of floor space. All cabins are air-conditioned and each equipped with a shower, telephone and TV set. Separable double beds were set up in the deluxe cabins. Behind the bow thruster room and kitchen is the on-board restaurant on the main deck, which can only be entered from the viewing salon above. In addition to the reception, an on-board shop was set up in the entrance area of the upper deck. The sun deck amidships behind the wheelhouse was furnished with deck chairs and partially covered seating areas. All decks can be reached via stair lifts, even for disabled passengers.

The ship is propelled by three eight-cylinder diesel engines of the type Deutz AM816 à 400  kW via three Schottel pump jets of the type SPJ 80 II . The bow thruster of the type SPJ 57 , also produced by Schottel, has a 220 kW electric drive. The ship is 94.80 m long, 11.00 m wide. The draft is given as 1 m. By filling four trim tanks, which are located in the double floor at the bow and stern of the main deck, the draft can be increased to a maximum of 1.27 m for low bridges.
