The RheinFantasie is a day excursion and event ship operated by Amagota Vermietungsgesellschaft in Wiesbaden, which is used on a long-term charter by the Cologne-Düsseldorf Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt . history

Launched on March 27, 2011

After the Cologne-Düsseldorfer had had good experiences with the multifunctional ship RheinEnergie, which had been in use since 2004 and there was an additional need for this type of ship, the shipping company considered building a somewhat smaller, versatile passenger ship from 2008, which had the coat of arms , which was no longer economically viable should replace from Cologne . After the Kreissparkasse Köln's financing commitment , the Cologne-Düsseldorfer commissioned the Unkel- based company Schiffstechnik Buchloh with the planning of a monohull ship that was to have a capacity of up to 1000 passengers. After the construction plan was drawn up, the Cologne-Düsseldorfer put the construction out to tender at ten shipyards, four of which submitted an offer. The contract was awarded on June 7, 2010 to the De Hoop shipyard in Rijnwaarden-Lobith , which had built all new ships for the shipping company since 1994. The keel of the ship built under construction number 442 and the project name “New Building 2011” took place on December 29, 2010, and it was launched on March 27 of the following year. The shipyard delivered the ship to the KD home port Niehl I on May 1st, 2011 .

On May 5, 2011, the publisher Isabella Neven DuMont named the ship RheinFantasie in the presence of Auxiliary Bishop Manfred Melzer at KD Pier 3 in Cologne . The name had previously been determined in a reader competition for a Cologne daily newspaper.

The one-hour maiden voyage led to Cologne-Marienburg , where the ship turned and returned. The construction costs of the ship amounted to 10 million  euros . On May 7, 2011, it was used as scheduled on the Cologne – Linz route. On the same day, it had its first event at Rhein in Flammen between Bonn and Linz . According to the shipping company's previous plans, the RheinFantasie is mainly used in the scheduled service between Cologne and Bad Hönningen .

In charter and at special events, it travels the entire area of operation of the Cologne-Düsseldorfer.

The RheinFantasie is a four-deck monohull ship with a usable area of 1600 m² in the closed decks and a 900 m² open deck. The maximum ceiling height is 5.90 m. The equipment is designed for up to 750 passengers in regular operation, but it can be modified so that 1000 passengers can be accommodated. The interior design of the ship was planned by Brunhilde Böttrich. One wall of the stairwell was designed by the Cologne artist Regina Kochs as part of her project “Art on the Ship”. All passenger decks are air-conditioned, glazed to the ceiling and equipped with modern event technology for various uses. The 35 m² stage located aft on the main deck can be seen from around 150 gallery-like seats on the upper deck. In the bow area, a restaurant was set up on the main and upper deck, of which the lower one also has an outside terrace that extends to the tip of the bow. The galley is located amidships on the main deck. On the open deck, the Cologne-Düsseldorfer set up a restaurant area and a playground as well as a grill station.
