The Drachenfels is an excursion ship that was used by the Cologne-Düsseldorf Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt AG until the end of 2013 . It was mainly used for charter and event trips as well as a tour ship in the Cologne area. On days with little traffic, the ship was also used in scheduled service between Cologne and Bad Hönningen and between Bonn and Winningen on the Moselle . The Drachenfels was decommissioned in January 2014 and has been for sale through various ship brokers ever since.

history

The Drachenfels closed down in the Niehler Hafen

The ship was built in 1984/85 under the construction number 391 in the Meiderich shipyard in Duisburg. The keel was laid in March 1984, the launch on January 8 of the following year. The festive baptism in the name of Drachenfels took place on June 20, 1985 by Ulrike Meyfarth in Düsseldorf . It was the third ship of the Köln-Düsseldorfer to be christened with this name - the previous bearer of the name was renamed by the shipping company in Wappen von Mainz . From June 29th, the shipping company started using the ship in scheduled service on various routes between Cologne and Winningen. From 1998 it took over the plan service on the Moselle between Koblenz and Cochem as a replacement for the decommissioned coat of arms of Koblenz . At higher water levels on the Moselle, the ship turned out to be unsuitable due to its construction height of 7.25 m above the water level , so that many trips could not be carried out. As a result, the Cologne-Düsseldorfer stopped scheduled traffic on the Moselle at the end of the 2000 season.

The side walls of the ship have been used as advertising media for the Kölsch brand Sion since 2003 . In December 2008, the ship was sold to the wholly owned subsidiary KD Europe S.à rl in Luxembourg and then registered in Valletta , Malta in January 2009 . Since the ships of the Cologne-Düsseldorfer cannot reach their home port due to lack of seaworthiness, they are serviced in the Niehler Hafen in Cologne. The somewhat longer sister ship, the Rüdesheim , was sold to Donau Touristik at the end of 2002 for 1.95 million euros . After another resale, she is now working as Rosa Victoria on the Dnepr near Kiev .

Since the Cologne-Düsseldorfer canceled a timetable from Bad Breisig to Rüdesheim and back from the 2014 season , the fleet became overstocked with one ship. Since the Drachenfels did not have a fixed schedule, the shipping company decided to shut down the ship and offer it for sale through a ship broker. The previous journeys of the Drachenfels were taken over by the Loreley passenger ship, which has become vacant on the Middle Rhine

Furnishing

The Drachenfels is a three-deck passenger ship with two salons in the closed decks. These are equipped with large panoramic windows towards the bow and were retrofitted with air conditioning in 2001. The usable area of the ship is around 1440 m², the average ceiling height is 2.20 m. With normal seating, the main deck 228 and the upper deck can accommodate 170 passengers - the open deck is designed for 150 people.

technology

The Drachenfels is via two 6-cylinder marine diesel engines of Deutz W A, type SBA 6M 816,294  kW two seven-bladed Z-Drive driven type SRP 300/226 EST. The bow thruster from Schottel , type STT 051 LK, is driven by a 60 kW electric motor. The ship is 64.60 m long, 8.60 m wide and 7.25 m high. The maximum draft is given as 1.37 m.
