history

The Wilhelm Tell on the Moselle

The cabin ship was built in 1986 and 1987 by the shipyard De Merwede in Hardinxveld-Giessendam under construction number 662 and the name Wilhelm Tell for Triton-Reisen AG in Basel . The keel was laid on November 21, 1986, the ship was christened by the managing director Béatrice Baumgartner and the subsequent launch on February 7 of the following year. The ship was then towed to the neighboring Da-Capo company for the installation of the engines and interior fittings . 250 invited guests took part in the maiden voyage carried out on April 1, 1987 , from Hardinxveld-Giessendam to Rotterdam . On delivery, the ship had 47 double cabins and 4 three-bed cabins, so that 106 passengers could be accommodated. It went into service on April 9, 1987 on the route from Amsterdam to Basel. In the following years Triton used the Wilhelm Tell on the Rhine, Main, Moselle and the Scheldt-Rhine Canal, the maintenance of the ship took place in the winter months in Sliedrecht in the Netherlands

In the summer of 1993 Triton-Reisen AG was taken over by the Cologne-Düsseldorf Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt and renamed KD Triton AG . As a result, the ownership of all cabin passenger ships from the parent company was transferred to the new company. The Wilhelm Tell received a new coat of paint in KD colors and was used again in her previous sailing area from June 1995. Ownership of the ship was transferred on March 29, 1996 to the newly founded KD Deutsche Flusskreuzfahrten GmbH in Cologne, which they used for cruises on the Danube until 1998 . From 1999 the shipping area was expanded to include the Rhine and Main. When Premicon AG became the main shareholder of Köln-Düsseldorfer on March 9, 2000 , Viking River Cruises took over the company's river cruise business, including all ships used there. The new owner used the Wilhelm Tell until October 2002 . Sijbrands Faassen BV (since 2009 SijFa Cruises ) from Malden in the Netherlands then took over the ship. The ship was renamed Rigoletto and extended at the Vahali shipyard in Gendt with a ten-meter-long center section so that 120 passengers could be accommodated. Since then, the Rigoletto has been used by 1AVista Reisen for long-term charter on the Rhine and its tributaries.
