The Bellriva is a river cruise ship built in 1970/71 by the Dutch Cruiselines Nijmegen Holding BV in Heesch , which is used in the time charter by the Cologne river tour operator 1AVista Reisen on the Rhine and its tributaries in Germany , the Netherlands and Belgium . She is the structurally identical sister ship of My Story, which was also launched in 1971 .

history

The cabin ship was built in 1970 and 1971 by the Bodewes inland shipyard in Millingen am Rhein under construction number 688 for the Holland River Line from Rotterdam . The keel was laid on April 29, 1970, the launch and christening under the name Holland Emerald on March 6 of the following year. The construction costs amounted to 12 million  guilders . From June 8, 1971, after a ceremony, she was deployed in plan service on the Rhine and its tributaries and the IJsselmeer .

The Italia of the Cologne-Düsseldorfer

On April 1, 1976, the Holland River Line with its two cabin ships was taken over by the Köln-Düsseldorfer , which already had six similar ships in service in the river cruise traffic on the Rhine. The ship was renamed Italia . In 2000 West KD Schiffs-Invest AG, a subsidiary of West LB , took over the ship at short notice. After Viking River Cruises took over the loss-making river cruise business of the Cologne-Düsseldorfer in 2000 as a package with all of the ships used there from West KD and saw no further need for the Italia , it transferred the ownership to the ship fund provider Viking Croisieres SA for resale in Luxembourg . In 2001 Bonaventura Cruising from 's-Gravendeel took over the ship and named it Bonaventura . An engine room fire in April 2002 completely destroyed both Deutz drive engines, so two new Volvo Penta type D34 MS engines were installed as replacements . In 2003, the shipping company sold the ship to Rhine Danube Line AG from Basel , who renamed it Rhine Emerald . Since reselling it again in 2007, it has been called Bellriva and is in use for the river cruise operator 1AVista Reisen. The current owner of the ship is the Dutch Cruiselines Nijmegen Holding. The ship is registered under the ENI no. 07001702 registered in Heesch , the Netherlands .

Incidents

  • On June 26, 1979, a tanker rammed pushed convoy after failure of the rudder system , the investors at Boppard lying Italia on the rear port side. After seven days of emergency repairs, the ship was operational again. At the De Hoop and Bodewes Binnenvaart shipyards , all other damage was repaired in February and March 1980.
  • In the summer of 2007, the Bellriva hit a lock gate. The bow was badly damaged. The bow was rebuilt at the Meiderich shipyard in a new form.
  • On April 17, 2012, the Bellriva hit a groyne at a distance of 347 kilometers on the Rhine near Elchesheim-Illingen in poor visibility due to fog . Since the skipper did not have the necessary route license, a pilot maneuvered the ship through the 90 m wide fairway at the time of the accident . Since water penetrated the ship's hull through three leaks , the ship was evacuated in the city port of Karlsruhe . There were 114 passengers and 43 crew members on board. Two passengers were hospitalized with circulatory problems. Since both propellers were damaged when they hit the bottom, the ship was no longer navigable after the leaks had been sealed off. On April 18, 2012, it was towed to a shipyard in Duisburg by a motor cargo ship. The ship was repaired at the Meiderich shipyard in Duisburg and used again as planned from April 25th.

Equipment and technology

The Bellriva is a four-deck cabin ship with 90 cabins of the upper middle class. On the main deck, the so-called Rhine deck, there are 37 two-bed cabins and a sauna next to the crew quarters . There are 53 cabins on the upper deck, the so-called Loreley deck . The cabins are between 9 and 11  m² in size and have a shower / toilet, telephone and satellite TV . The units are all equipped with two separate beds. In the front promenade deck is the all-round glazed viewing salon in the bow area . On the starboard side, the bar was set up in a separate saloon. The restaurant and kitchen are connected in the middle part of the ship. Sun loungers, chairs and tables are available for passengers on the open deck, which is equipped with a sun sail.

The Bellriva is powered by two diesel engines of 476  kW each from Volvo Penta via two Voith-Schneider drives . The bow thruster has a 147 kW drive. The ship is 104.64 m long, 11.61 m wide and 9.20 m high. By lowering the wheelhouse and chimney, as well as moving the railings and awnings, the height for trips on bodies of water with low bridges, such as the Moselle and Main-Danube Canal , can be reduced to about 7.00 m. The maximum draft is given as 1.40 m.
