Gendt is a town and former municipality in Over-Betuwe . It is located near Arnhem and Nijmegen in the Dutch province of Gelderland . Gendt is located on the Waal, five kilometers northeast of Nijmegen. The town was granted town charter around 1233 .
Since January 1, 2001, Gendt has formed the new municipality of Lingewaard with the former villages of Huissen and Bemmel , which also includes the villages of Angeren , Doornenburg , Haalderen and Ressen .
To celebrate
Gendt is known regionally for the annual Kersenfeest (cherry festival ) with the choice of the cherry queen and kersenstampen (cherry pounding ). During the festival there is a village festival and a fair , a marquee is set up.
Once a year the Schuttersfeest (shooting festival) takes place, also called Kermis (fair). On Saturday the rifle king is determined by a shooting competition, a Sunday kerkmis (church mass ) is held and the queen is “picked up” on Monday.
