Renata Mauer (2012)

Renata Małgorzata Mauer-Różańska (born April 23, 1969 in Nasielsk ) is a Polish sports shooter and two-time Olympic champion.

Career

Mauer began shooting sports in 1984. She received her first international medal at the 1990 World Championships in Moscow when she won the silver medal with an air rifle . In 1992 she also won the bronze medal with the air rifle at the European Championships in Budapest. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona , she did not reach the final with either the air rifle or the small bore rifle .

In 1994, Mauer took fifth place with the air rifle at the European Championships and won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Milan. In 1995, back in Milan, she achieved her only World Cup victory with the small bore rifle. In 1995 and 1996 she won the World Cup final in Munich with the small bore rifle. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , she won the gold medal with the air rifle in front of the German Petra Horneber and the Yugoslavian Aleksandra Ivošev . Four days later Ivosev won with the small bore rifle ahead of the Russian Irina Gerassimjonok and Renata Mauer. After winning two Olympic medals and winning the World Cup finals, Renata Mauer was named Sportswoman of the Year in Poland in 1996.

In 1997, Renata Mauer won the European championship title with the small bore rifle in both the Olympic three-position competition and in the prone position. At the World Championships in Barcelona in 1998 she won silver with the air rifle, as in 1990. She won her second Olympic gold medal with the small bore rifle at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . Four years later, she just barely missed the finals of the Olympic Games in Athens in ninth place with the air rifle.

Renata Mauer reached a final at international championships at the European Championships in 2005, and she remained active in the World Cup until 2013. Mauer started for Śląsk Wrocław . She has a degree in economics and is the mother of two children.
