Renzo Montagnani (born September 11, 1930 in Alessandria , Piedmont , † May 22, 1997 in Rome ) was an Italian film and theater actor .

Life

Montagnani was born into an originally Tuscan family and spent his school days in Florence . Then he enrolled at the local pharmacy faculty . He played with Beppe Menegatti and Ilaria Occhini in student performances at the theater club, but did not follow them to the CSC in Rome, but went to Milan , where he performed on revue stages in the ensembles of Enrico Viarisio , Erminio Macario , Gino Bramieri and Sandra Mondaini / Raimondo Vianello was engaged. In 1959 Montagnani was able to show his full acting qualities for the first time when he played one of the two journalists from Italy in Hungary who were present during the Soviet invasion in 1956 in Indro Montanelli's I sogni muoiono all'alba . (Two years later, this role was also his cinema debut under the direction of the author.) He played at the Milanese "Teatro Sant'Erasmo" under Maner Lealdi and then (from 1963) at the "Teatro Stabile" in Trieste . In 1966 he finally arrived in Rome successfully (with Luigi Pirandellos Vestire gli ignudi ). The following year he played in Egmont under the direction of Luchino Visconti .

In 1967 Montagnani began working for television, initially in supporting roles ( Il mulino del Po , Sandro Bolchi ; Gallina vecchia ; Santa Giovanni ). With his acting partner in the latter film, Valeria Moriconi , he also went to the "Compagnia dei Quattro", which was active from 1968 to 1970 and co-founded by her, with whom he interpreted Jean-Paul Sartre , Georges Feydeau and Goffredo Parise . From 1971 he was the presenter of the music program Milledischi , in which new releases were presented. He was also able to increase his popularity significantly as a performer in the series Come un uragano and as a protagonist in Arthur Miller's adaptation of the witch hunt . With his full-sounding original voice reminiscent of Gino Cervi and pronounced joviality, from then on he tended towards comedy.

His film career also oscillated between dramatic and comic roles until the mid-1970s. In addition to serious roles ( Faustina 1968, I sette fratelli Cervi 1968, Metello 1970 based on Vasco Pratolini - his breakthrough in the cinema; The Murder of Matteotti in 1973, Fatal Error 1973), he often took on well-paid roles in more and more undemanding comedies - he had to pay for expensive ones medical treatment methods for his seriously ill son Daniele emerged. From 1975 onwards, Montagnani played in barely countable sexy comedies that showed him as a medieval teacher / husband / police officer / mayor in the midst of a crowd of young, scantily clad women - often reviled by the serious criticism that the word "ginecomico" (for example: " Gynecomists ”). Nevertheless, he was able to succeed again and again, albeit rarely, in demanding films and roles. His best known of these is probably that of "Guido Necchi" in the two Amici miei continuations.

Occasionally, Montagnani worked for television ( La giacca verde , 1980), the theater ( La coscienza di Zeno , 1978, under Franco Giraldi ) and as a voice actor during his busy film days . After the 1980s only once in the cinema, but seen in a number of television series, he died of lung cancer in 1997 .
