Rescalure is a mixture of two chemical compounds from the group of acetic acid esters and an insect pheromone . The compound is used for the biological control of the scale insect Aonidiella aurantii ("Red Californian scale insect ") in citrus cultivation. The common name stands for a mixture of the (3 S , 6 R ) - and (3 S, 6 S ) - diastereomers in a ratio of 50:50 (± 5).

Stereochemistry

Rescalure has two stereocenters and accordingly forms four stereoisomers . A mixture of diastereomers, a mixture of

  • (3 S , 6 S ) -6-isopropenyl-3-methyldec-9-en-1-ylacetate and
  • (3 S , 6 R ) -6-Isopropenyl-3-methyldec-9-en-1-ylacetate.

The two diastereomers each occur in the mixture in a proportion between 45% and 55%.
