The Reverend Horton Heat is the name of a psychobilly / rockabilly band from Dallas , Texas, and their front man, James C. or Jim Heath (* 1959 in Corpus Christi , Texas ).

Band history

Jim Heath live

Jim Heath first appeared in small clubs before the band formed in their first formation in 1989. The Reverend Horton Heat toured regularly from the start and attracted attention with their convincing performances. The typical Gretsch sound of the guitar in combination with stylistic elements from Dick Dale and The Cramps also interested some record labels . Sub Pop , a Seattle- based independent label best known for grunge , signed a deal with The Reverend Horton Heat and released their debut album Smoke 'Em If You Got' Em in 1991 . The musical mixture of traditional rockabilly themes with distorted guitars and alternative rock elements also found followers outside of the rockabilly scene.

In 1994 a contract with the major label Interscope Records was concluded. After the merger of several record companies into a large corporation and a musical reorientation of the label, The Reverend Horton Heat switched back to an independent label and released Lucky 7 on Artemis Records in 2002 , before signing a contract with Yep Roc Records in 2003 .

Pieces by The Reverend Horton Heat were included in the soundtracks of the video games Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and Redneck Rampage and used in cartoons The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas and Johnny Bravo . Several pieces found their way into television and radio commercials. In 1994 they had a brief appearance in the road movie Love and a .45 (with Renée Zellweger).
