The Reyran is a river in southeastern France that runs in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region . It rises in the Esterel Mountains , on the municipal boundary of Saint-Paul-en-Forêt and Bagnols-en-Forêt , first drains in an easterly direction, then turns to the southwest, parallel to the A8 motorway , and after a total of 27 kilometers flows into the municipal area of Fréjus as a left tributary in the Argens , which itself flows a few hundred meters further into the Mediterranean . The lower reaches of the Reyran are built as a canal to protect against flooding .

history
In the mid-1950s, the river was dammed by the Barrage de Malpasset . It broke out in 1959; According to various sources, around 421 people were killed in the resulting tidal wave.
