Jailhouse Rock - Rhythm Behind Bars is a film from 1957 with Elvis Presley in the lead role, which came out parallel to his number 1 hit Jailhouse Rock . In 2004 he was inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress .

In a bar, the spirited Vince Everett is dragged into a fight by a stranger. Vince strikes once too often, the stranger dies. Vince is sentenced to 14 months in prison for negligent homicide . In the prison environment, he develops into a cold- hearted cynic . His cellmate, country singer Hunk Houghton, realizes that Vince is a vocalist after a prison TV show and signs him.
After Vince's release, he met Peggy, the young advertising assistant for a record company. Both start their own record company. Vince becomes a star under Peggy's direction. But because of his arrogant manner, he doesn't notice that Peggy sees him as more than just a business partner - she loves him.
Vince is now also working with his old prison buddy Hunk after his release. Vince treats Hunk in such a humiliating way that one day Vince casts himself down in anger and seriously injures his larynx. This calls into question his further career. Ultimately, however, the injury turns out to be harmless, and with Peggy's help, Vince manages a fresh start. He becomes an acclaimed rock and roll star again.

- Filming began on May 13, 1957 at MGM Studios in Culver City and lasted until June 14, 1957. The premiere took place on October 17, 1957 in Memphis. The film opened in all other US cinemas on November 8, 1957.
- Actress Judy Tyler died in a traffic accident just under three weeks after filming ended. She was only 24 years old.
- Elvis Presley received $ 250,000 in salary and 50% of the proceeds.
- In the German version, "Hunk Houghton" is called "Harry Houser"
- The film was released in German cinemas on April 5, 1958.
