Richard Travers Dixon (born November 20, 1865 in Sydney , Australia , † November 14, 1949 in Falmouth ) was a British sailor .
successes
Richard Dixon, of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club sailed, was in 1908 in London at the Olympic Games in the 7-meter class Olympic champion . Since the Heroine , owned and skippered by Charles Rivett-Carnac, was the only boat to take part in the competition after the only competing boat had withdrawn, it was enough for her to cross the finish line in two races for the overall victory. The Heroine crew also included Norman Bingley and Rivett-Carnac's wife Frances . Dixon began sailing in 1895 and participated in over 1,000 regattas over the next 50 years. He was one of the founding members of the Royal Yachting Association , on whose board he was active from 1900 to 1938.
Dixon attended Harrow School and the Royal Military Academy Woolwich before joining the pioneers of the Royal Engineers in 1885 . In 1897 he left the British Army , but returned to active service in the First World War .
