Richard Dutruel (born December 24, 1972 in Thonon-les-Bains ) is a former French football player .

Career

Dutruel started his career at Paris Saint-Germain . After he played his first four league games for Paris in the 1991/92 season and he was not used in the season after that, he was loaned to SM Caen from 1993 to 1995 . During his time at Caen he was the first goalkeeper, but when he returned to Paris in 1995 he couldn't get past Bernard Lama again . When Paris won the European Cup Winners' Cup in the 1995/96 season , he could only play six league games. After this season he left Paris for Spain and moved to Celta Vigo . At Celta Vigo Dutruel experienced his most successful time and became one of the best goalkeepers in the Primera División .

In 2000, he switched to FC Barcelona in the summer and made his only international appearance for France on October 4th of this year . But even before he arrived in Barcelona, the person who arranged his transfer to FC Barcelona, namely Louis van Gaal , had already been sacked. Even if the new coach Llorenç Serra Ferrer initially gave him confidence, he was replaced on the 13th match day of the season (also due to an injury) by the young Pepe Reina . When Barcelona got Roberto Bonano at the beginning of the 2001/02 season , Dutruel was only the third goalkeeper and did not play a single game that season. Subsequently to this season he moved to Deportivo Alavés . There he was able to regularly stand in the gate, but could not prevent relegation to the Segunda División . Dutruel then decided to cancel his three-year contract and move back to his native France. He played regularly for Racing Strasbourg in the 2003/04 season and played one game for the club's B team, but the following season he was unable to play due to a back injury and ended his career in 2005.
