Richard Heinrich Hohenemser (born August 10, 1870 in Frankfurt am Main , † April 8, 1942 in Berlin ) was a German musicologist .

Life

Hohenemser studied musicology at the Berlin University from 1892 to 1896 with Philipp Spitta , Heinrich Bellermann and Oskar Fleischer . From 1896 to 1899 he continued his studies at the University of Munich , where he was one of Adolf Sandberger's students and received his doctorate in 1899.

From 1905 he lived in Berlin, from 1919 in his hometown Frankfurt. He later moved back to Berlin.

Because of his Jewish origins, he was one of those persecuted by the Nazi regime from 1933. Most recently he lived in Berlin-Lankwitz , Havensteinstrasse 26.

Shortly thereafter, both were sentenced to death and executed because of their membership in the Rote Kapelle resistance group .
