Richard Paul Lehmann (born May 17, 1845 in Neuzelle ; † June 6, 1942 in Marburg ) was a German geographer and professor at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster .

Richard Lehmann attended grammar school in Guben from 1856 to 1860 and the grammar school in Landsberg from 1860 to 1862 . In 1863 he began studying history and linguistics at the University of Halle . During his studies from April 1865 to September 1866 he did military service (first as a volunteer, from April 1866 as a non-commissioned officer). In 1866 he continued his studies at the University of Berlin , on July 28, 1869 he obtained his doctorate (Dr. phil.) At the University of Göttingen . From Easter to July 1870 he was a scientific assistant teacher at the Latin Secondary School of the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale), from 1870 to 1871 lieutenant in the war against France, then he resumed his work as an assistant teacher at the city high school in Halle. From 1873 to 1885 he was a full teacher and from 1875 a senior teacher at the Realschule 1st order (later Realgymnasium ) of the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale). In 1875 he began studying geography and geology at the University of Halle, where on July 22, 1881, he received his habilitation in geography. He then went on to teach geography there. On July 5, 1882 he was registered with the registration number. Elected member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in Halle in 2356 . In 1885 he was appointed associate professor for geography at the Münster Academy, and in 1897 he became a full professor there. From 1900 to 1901 he was rector of the Münster Academy, from 1902 to 1903 dean of the Philosophical Faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster . In 1906 he retired .

Richard Lehmann played a major role in the development of the academy into a university and in the establishment of the law and political science faculty (1902), the Protestant theological faculty (1914) and the medical faculty (1925) of the University of Münster. That is why he was promoted to Dr. jur. hc of the Faculty of Law and Political Science and on May 16, 1925 Dr. med. hc of the Medical Faculty of the University of Münster. In 1866 he was awarded the Military Medal II. Class (for the Battle of Königgrätz ), in 1870 the Iron Cross II. Class and in the same year the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross II. Class [Mecklenburg-Schwerin]. He received the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Medal in 1897 . In 1901 he was awarded the Royal Prussian Red Eagle Order IV. Class, in 1906 the Royal Crown Order III. Class awarded. In 1902 he was appointed a secret councilor.
