Richard Schmidt (born July 10, 1992 ) is a German sword fencer . He is a two-time German champion.

Life

The Tauberbischofsheimer 2011 Richard Schmidt completed his schooling at the Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium . Schmidt fought for the Tauberbischofsheim fencing club until July 31, 2016 . Since August 1st, 2016 he has been playing for the fencing club Offenbach .

At the fencing world championships 2017 in Leipzig , Schmidt, who started the competition as number 135 in the world rankings, surprisingly won the bronze medal. Almost a year after his bronze medal from Leipzig, Schmidt also took third place at the European Championships in Novi Sad .
