Richard Theile

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Theile (born March 23, 1913 in Halle (Saale) ; † August 10, 1974 in Amrum ) was a German physicist .

Life

He studied in Marburg and Berlin.

At the laboratory for physical research at Telefunken , headed by Fritz Schröter , he did research on image pickup tubes with photosensitive semiconductor layers. In addition to photo multipliers , iconoscope type image pick-up tubes were also developed under his leadership .

After the end of the war, he took part in Pye Ltd. for a few years . at Cambridge on the development of the trickle iconoscope . The scanning electrons of the supericonoscope released many secondary electrons due to their high speed. This disturbing effect could be compensated by artificial sprinkling with separate electrons.

In the early 1950s he took over the management of the main television department at the Rundfunktechnisches Institut (RTI) in Nuremberg .

In 1957, the RTI and the Central Technology of the Northwest German Broadcasting Corporation (NWDR) formed the Institute for Broadcasting Technology (IRT). Richard Theile took over the management of the Munich branch, in which the television-related tasks were processed.

Together with Walter Bruch and Oberpostrat Dr. Johannes Müller from the FTZ founded the three-party committee ( triumvirate ) for the introduction of color television , which was founded on July 3, 1962 .

In 1973 he was appointed head of the entire IRT as a joint research institute of the two public broadcasters ARD and ZDF. He was a member of the board of the Technical Commission and chairman of the politically difficult ad hoc color television group of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU, UER).

From 1967 he was also a member of the founding committee and head of the technology department at the Munich University of Television and Film . He also became an honorary professor.

On his initiative, the television technical society (FTG) and the cinema technical society for film and television (DKG) were united to form the television and cinema technical society (FKTG), of which he was the first chairman.
