In 1896 father switched to teaching at RWTH Aachen University . In 1900 he was appointed full professor of mechanical engineering at the Bergakademie Berlin as the successor to Adolf Hörmann , where he taught mechanical engineering for miners and smelters. With the incorporation of the Bergakademie in Technische Hochschule Berlin, he went over to this in 1916.

Father wrote numerous books on technical thermodynamics and heat engines . He also published on thermodynamic topics in Dingler's Polytechnisches Journal . He worked on the piston steam engine and steam turbine sections in the hut .
