Richard Vopelius

Georg Richard Vopelius , since 1908 by Vopelius , (born October 19, 1843 in Sulzbach , † August 16, 1911 in St. Blasien ) was a German industrialist in the glass industry, representative of associations and free-conservative politician .

Life

Vopelius completed both commercial and technical training. He also studied in Karlsruhe , Heidelberg and Bonn . In Heidelberg he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia , in Bonn of the Corps Saxonia .

Since 1876 he was co-owner of the Eduard Vopelius'schen glassworks in Sulzbach. He also acquired the Hostenbach mine , which he used for the glassworks. He was also chairman of the supervisory board of Wittener Glashütten AG. Vopelius was particularly important as an economic association politician. He was a leading member of the Association of German Glass Industries. There, as in the German glass trade association, he was the chairman. In the Central Association of German Industrialists he was a member of the board between 1893 and 1911. From 1904 and 1909 he was chairman of the organization. Vopelius was seen in the organization as a main representative of rather rural entrepreneurs. In 1904 he played a leading role in the attempt to found a general German employers' association. Politically, Vopelius belonged to the Free Conservative Party. He was a member of the central board.

Vopelius belongs to the Rhenish provincial parliament . From 1877 to 1903 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives . Between 1882 and 1895 he served as secretary in this. From 1903 to 1911 Vopelius was a member of the Prussian manor house . In 1908 he was raised to hereditary nobility.
