Richard of Swaine

Richard Swaine , from 1858 von Swaine , from 1874 Baron von Swaine (born August 15, 1830 in Glücksbrunn , † October 24, 1902 in Obertheres ) was an industrialist, landowner and member of the Reichstag .

Life

He came from a family who immigrated from the County of York (England) and was the son of Henry Swaine, mine owner and heir to a worsted spinning mill next to Glücksbrunn Castle . Swaine received private lessons and attended schools in Jena , then studied natural and administrative sciences in Jena and Leipzig .

After a practical course as a farmer in Thuringia , he began mining and economics studies in Munich . In 1856 he left Munich after the construction of the Hochstadt – Stockheim railway line was secured, mainly through his efforts . In 1863 he took over the mining and smelting works near Stockheim and Neuhaus-Schierschnitz (today: Föritztal) . As a result he undertook long trips to many European countries, including a long stay in England to study the social and industrial conditions there.

From 1871 to 1874 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the Liberal Reich Party and the constituency of Upper Franconia 4 ( Kronach ).

  1. ^ Father Henry Swaine was raised to the Saxon-Meiningischen nobility on October 28, 1858 in Hildburghausen .
