Rickard Wallin (born April 9, 1980 in Stockholm ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player . He won the Swedish championship four times in the course of his career, completed 79 games in the NHL for Minnesota Wild and the Toronto Maple Leafs and wore the jersey of the Swedish national team in 109 international matches.
Career
Rickard Wallin began his career as a hockey player in the youth of Färjestad BK , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Elitserien in the 1998/99 season . Previously, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1998 in the sixth round as a total of 160th player by the Phoenix Coyotes , for which he never played. Instead, the attacker ran in the 1999/00 season for IF Troja-Ljungby in HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division, before playing again for Färjestad in the Elitserien from 2000 to 2002. With Färjestad he was first Swedish champion in the 2001/02 season .
In the summer of 2002 Wallin was signed by the Minnesota Wild , for which he scored ten scorer points in 19 games in the following two seasons. Most of his time in Minnesota, however, he spent with their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Houston Eros , with whom he won the Calder Cup in the 2002/03 season. During the lockout of the 2004/05 NHL season , Wallin stayed in Houston, but then returned to Sweden to his former club from Färjestads, with whom he became champions for the second time in 2006. For the 2006/07 season he was signed by the reigning Swiss champions HC Lugano . There he did not renew his contract after a year, so he returned to Färjestad again in the summer of 2007, which he led as captain to the third championship of his career in the 2008/09 season .
In the summer of 2009, the Swede received a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs from the NHL. He completed 60 games for the Maple Leafs. After the end of the season this was not extended, so Wallin returned to Sweden and signed another contract with Färjestad BK. In the 2010/11 season he was a fourth time Swedish champion with Färjestad. He played for the club until the end of his career, which he announced at the end of April 2016.
International
For Sweden , Wallin took part in the U18 European Junior Championship in 1998 , the U20 Junior World Championship in 2000 , as well as the World Championships in 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 and 2011 . In 2009 and 2010 he won bronze at the World Championships, and in 2011 the silver medal.
