Ried (Italian Novale) is a fraction of the municipality of St. Martin in Passeier in South Tyrol .
The area of the Ried fraction extends mainly above the town of Saltaus and borders Riffian ( Vernuer ) in the south and the Kalmtal fraction in the north . Ried is divided into two areas: Ausserried and Innerried. 74 people lived in Ried in 2001 (2001 census). The fraction can be reached via a mountain road, Riederbergstrasse. There are several hiking trails through Ried, such as B. the Meraner Höhenweg . Ried does not consist of a central village, but of several hamlets and farmsteads that are spread across the Rieder Berg.
Above Saltaus , in Ausserried, Johann Haller , who later became provicer of Trento and cardinal of Salzburg , was born in 1825 .
