Vernuer ( Italian Vernurio ) is a small fraction of the municipality Riffian in South Tyrol ( Italy ) with 34 inhabitants.

location

The small village of Vernuer is located north above Riffian on the eastern slope of the Texel Group or on the orographic right , western side of the valley in Passeier . The church is at an altitude of around 1090  m , the highest courtyards even reach 1400  m . Although Vernuer only has around 34 inhabitants, it is divided into two settlements: Untervernuer and Obervernuer.

The Vernuer fraction has only been connected to the Passeirer Hauptstrasse since the late 1970s. At the time, this connection prevented the residents from emigrating. In the hiking season, a shuttle service connects Vernuer with Riffian and the neighboring communities of Kuens and Tyrol .

Attractions

The church of Vernuer with the wooden tower is dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk and was built in 1743. It has been a listed building since 1981. Since Vernuer no longer has a pastor, the pastor of Riffian and Kuens also holds masses in Vernuer. The last pastor of Vernuer was Albert Prinoth from Castelrotto from 1956 to 1999 .

The courtyards in the village form an ensemble - the sawmill at the Brunnerhof, which has been faithfully restored, is also worth seeing. It is a so-called Venetian saw with water gear, which served as a community saw for the farmers of Vernuer for centuries.

panorama

The high location of Vernuer gives you a beautiful and wide panoramic view from Passeier over Schenna into the Adige Valley from Merano to Bozen . You can also see the mountain peaks of the Ifinger ( 2581  m ), Hirzer ( 2781  m ) and other mountains in the Sarntal Alps .
