Rigney is a small two-farm settlement in the Central Otago District of the Otago Regionon the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The settlement is about 9 km south-southeast of Millers Flat and about 7 km north of Raes Junction on the east bank of the Clutha River . The settlement is connected by secondary roads with these places and the Beaumont settlement around 12 km south-southeast . Roxburgh and Lawrence , as the two closest towns, are each around 25 km away and can be reached on New Zealand State Highway 8 via Millers Flat .
history
On December 16, 1925, the railroad with the Roxburgh Branch , a branch line of the Main South Line , reached the settlement with a stop. On June 1, 1968, the entire railway line was shut down and subsequently dismantled.
