Rio do Sul , officially Portuguese Município de Rio do Sul , is a city in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina . The population was estimated on July 1, 2019 at 71,061 inhabitants, who are called Rio-Sulenses ( rio-sulenses ) on a municipality area of around 260.8 km² . The community is located in the Alto Vale do Itajaí and is heavily influenced by German and Italian immigrants.
Surrounding municipalities are Agronômica , Aurora , Ibirama , Laurentino , Lontras and Presidente Getúlio . It ranks 19th out of 295 municipalities in the state.
The municipality's climate is subtropical, Cfa according to the Köppen and Geiger climate classification . The average temperature is 19.3 ° C. The average rainfall is 1529 mm per year.
Rio do Sul is the bishopric of the Roman Catholic diocese of Rio do Sul .
In September, the bowling festival, a national bowling sport event, takes place in Rio do Sul.
