William Walsh

William Walsh (born May 11, 1828 in Tullamore , Ireland , †  May 17, 1892 in Cumberland , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1875 and 1879 he represented the state of Maryland in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Walsh first attended a school in his Irish homeland. In 1842 he came to the United States, where he settled in Virginia . He continued his education at Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1850, he began to work in this profession from 1852 in Cumberland. He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1867 he was a delegate to a meeting to revise the Maryland Constitution.

In the congressional election of 1874 , Walsh was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the sixth constituency of his state , where he succeeded Lloyd Lowndes on March 4, 1875 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1879 . From 1877 he was chairman of the committee for the revision of the legislation. In 1878 he renounced another candidacy.

After his time in the US House of Representatives ended, William Walsh practiced law again. He died on May 17, 1892 in Cumberland, where he was also buried.
