politics

Mohr-Lüllmann was a member of the CDU from 2001. She was elected to Bremen's citizenship in June 2003. She was deputy state treasurer and, since July 2007, deputy CDU parliamentary group leader.

In 2009 Mohr-Lüllmann ran as a direct candidate for the Bundestag in constituency 55 (Bremen city). With an election result of 28.7% of the first votes, she was closer to winning a direct mandate in the German Bundestag than a CDU candidate in Bremen had before.

In May 2010 Mohr-Lüllmann was elected deputy state chairman and in autumn 2010 was elected CDU top candidate in the 2011 mayor elections and thus opponent of incumbent mayor Jens Böhrnsen (SPD). In the general election, however, she was unable to replace Böhrnsen.

In autumn 2011, against the background of the internal party discussion about the leadership style of the state chairman Thomas Röwekamp, she announced her candidacy for the state chairmanship and was supported by a clear majority of members against Röwekamp for the spring 2012 election in a member survey in December. After Röwekamp's resignation, the CDU state executive elected Mohr-Lüllmann as provisional state chair in December 2011 and the state party conference in March 2012 as state chair.

In April 2012, Mohr-Lüllmann spoke out against the controversial plans of the CDU-led federal government to introduce childcare allowances for families who do not use the state childcare facilities. The money is needed more urgently for the expansion of all-day care for children.

In October 2012, as a result of an internal party dispute in the run-up to the 2013 federal election , she resigned from the position of CDU state chairman. She also resigned from her citizenship mandate at the end of 2012.

In autumn 2013 Mohr-Lüllmann, who has a residence in Bremen and Munich and now mainly works in Bavaria, joined the CSU.
