Riversul , officially Portuguese Município de Riversul , is a small town with a large municipality in the Brazilian state of São Paulo . The distance to the capital São Paulo is 381 km. The population was estimated at 5607 as of July 1, 2018 and has been falling since the last census in 2010. The inhabitants who live in the approximately 386 km² area (as of 2016) are called Riversulenses (Portuguese riversulenses ) or Riversulers. The population density in 2010 was 16 people per km².
location
In the west, the Rio Itararé forms the municipal boundary and is also the state border to the neighboring state of Paraná . To the east of the town center, the SP-281 state road runs in a north-west-south-east direction through the municipality.

history
The municipality of Ribeirão Vermelho do Sul was founded in 1953 and renamed Riversul in 1980 , formed from the first syllables.
In 2017, the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística changed the assignment to geostatistical regions and assigned the municipality together with 18 other municipalities to the Região geográfica imediata Itapeva and this to the Região geográfica intermediária Sorocaba .
City administration
Executive: In the local elections in 2016, José Guilherme Gomes became city prefect (mayor) for the term from 2017 to 2020, who ran for the Partido Democrático Trabalhista (PDT). The legislature rests with a city council (Câmara Municipal) made up of nine elected city councilors (vereadores). The municipality forms a district with Riversul as the administrative seat.
economy
The Riversulens live in average circumstances; the city has very little financial resources. There are no large industrial companies located here, rather the city's gross national product is generated through services and agriculture.
The human development index for cities, abbreviated HDI (Portuguese: IDH-M ), was at the very low value of 0.405 in 1991, at the low value of 0.555 in 2000, and at the mean value of 0.664 in 2010.
Attractions
In the city center, which is about 587 m above sea level. NN is the main Catholic church Igreja Bom Jesus . A statue of Christ several meters high stands on one of the hills around Riversul.
