Rivière Saint-Jean is a river in the Côte-Nord administrative region of the Canadian province of Québec .
The river has its origin on the Canadian Shield in the center of the Labrador Peninsula near the border with Newfoundland and Labrador . From there, the 256 km long river flows south through the regional county town of Minganie and finally flows into the St. Lawrence Gulf . The catchment area is 5594 km², the mean discharge 128 m³ / s. The Rivière Romaine runs east of the Rivière Saint-Jean , west of the Rivière Magpie . The estuary is opposite the western tip of the island of Anticosti .

The Rivière Saint-Jean is a major salmon river in southeast Canada.
Eleven fish species are known in the river, including the Atlantic salmon , the anadromous migratory form of the rainbow trout , and the rainbow trout , which only occurs in freshwater. The river fauna also includes the suction carp Catostomus catostomus , the pike , the three-spined stickleback , the American eel , the Atlantic tomcod and the burbot .
