Robert Beckmann

Career

Beckmann finished his training as a violinist in 1986 after twelve years. Between 1986 and 1991 he was a street musician; especially in Potsdam he coined the originally folklore-oriented formations Tippelklimper and Spilwut , which dealt with the playing practice of medieval minstrels . At the same time there were various works with free jazz musicians as well as works in the context of performances with artists such as Olga Maslo and Hans Scheuerecker ; In 1991 he founded as together with Titus Jany medieval rock band beginning The Inchtabokatables (nine albums). The style of the band changed with each new release in the years that followed. The last CD released by this band bears clear traits of conceptually laid out music, influences from industrial and classical music are unmistakable. The band split up for the time being in 2002.

Despite the band's separation in 2002 and their turning away from their medieval, Irish-influenced beginnings, they are still considered to be a proven role model for medieval rock bands such as In Extremo and Subway to Sally .

Between 1996 and 2004 he worked with the SWR [radio play] - together with Tobias Unterberg (also The Inchtabokatables).

This is followed by work as a musical director at state and city theaters.

  • The legend of Paul and Paula , directed by Sascha Hawemann ; State Theater Potsdam, 2004/05
  • A Clockwork Orange , directed by Sascha Hawemann, Oper Magdeburg, 2005/06

At the same time he works as a studio musician and arranger ( Stephan Remmler etc.) and is involved in the realization of several off-theater projects, including in Switzerland for Christian Kuchenbuch's directorial work.

In 2010 he founded the band Grüßaugust . Four publications since then.

Since 2014 regularly creating and implementing own concepts for various music projects.

In 2016 he called the artist collective KLAUS! the alternative reading series "MEUTERLAND" into life.

2017: first publications of own texts. 2018: Guest musician at the Rostock Volkstheater .
