Robert Begerau (born July 17, 1947 in Büdelsdorf ) is a former German football player . He played two Bundesliga games .

Life

Career

Begerau's football career began at SF Vorst . The next step was the move to VfR Neuss. From 1967/68 to the 1969/70 season Begerau played with VfR Neuss in the West Regional Football League . The midfielder made 77 regional league appearances with the green-whites from the stadium on Hammer Landstrasse alongside fellow players Rolf Dohmen , Ulrich Kohn and Klaus Schonz and scored 16 goals. Under coach Willi Koll , he made his debut in November 1967 in the Regionalliga West. Especially in the 1-0 away win on March 30, 1970 at Fortuna Düsseldorf under coach Manfred Krafft , Begerau convinced the people in charge from Flinger Broich . For the 1970/71 season he moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf . This season Begerau played all 34 games (four goals) under the new Fortuna coach Heinz Lucas and thus contributed significantly to the Düsseldorf runner-up in the Regionalliga West. In the promotion round he played all eight games (2 goals) against FC St. Pauli, 1. FC Nürnberg, Borussia Neunkirchen and Wacker 04 Berlin. Fortuna Düsseldorf achieved 14: 2 points with the outstanding pair of wings Reiner Geye and Dieter Herzog and rose superiorly to the Bundesliga. Immediately before the start of the 1971/72 Bundesliga season, Begerau was unable to prove that he was fit for the Bundesliga for health reasons (consequences of injuries) and was therefore unable to compete in the Bundesliga with the Bundesliga promoted team. He completed one Bundesliga game each in the rounds of 1973/74 and 1974/75.

In addition to the promotion to the Bundesliga in 1971, the cup round was another highlight for Begerau and Fortuna. Over the stations Werder Bremen (3: 1 a. V.) and Wuppertaler SV (4: 0), Fortuna met in the quarter-finals on April 8, 1971 on the team of coach Hennes Weisweiler , on Borussia Mönchengladbach . The Düsseldorf midfield with Fred Hesse , Klaus Budde and Begerau had to do with Peter Dietrich , Günter Netzer and Herbert L Genealogie . The 1-0 lead for the German champions by L Bäumen from the 19th minute equalized Begerau in the 60th minute. Two more goals by Hilmar Hoffer and Geye made it into the semi-finals. On May 12, 1971, the regional division welcomed Franz Beckenbauer's team , FC Bayern Munich . A goal by striker Gerd Müller prevented the Fortunes from entering the cup final.

From 1975 to 1978 he played for SpVgg Neckargemünd .

After the active career

From 1979 to 2012 Begerau worked as a teacher in Kerpen (Eifel) . From 1993 to 1994 he was the assistant coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach , during which time he interrupted his teaching activities. In 2009 he ran as a non-party candidate for Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen for the office of mayor of Kaarst , but was defeated by Franz-Josef Moormann ( CDU ).
