Hilmar Hoffer (born November 14, 1937 in Rheydt ) is a former German football player . The attacking player made it to the Bundesliga twice with Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1966 and 1971 .

Career

Hoffer gained competition experience at his home club Rheydter SV in the 2nd League West until 1960. After the descent of the RSV, he joined the relegated from the Oberliga West, Fortuna Düsseldorf, in the summer of 1960. Under coach Fritz Pliska and next to the other newcomer Hermann Straschitz , the man from Rheydt completed 19 games in the 2nd division and scored seven goals to reach the runner-up and the immediate return to the West Football League . The fast winger, who can be used on both sides of the wing, made his debut on the first day of play, August 6, 1961, in the away game against TSV Marl-Hüls in the league. In the 3: 3 draw he brought Fortuna 1: 0 in the 22nd minute. He played on the left wing and together with Bernhard Steffen , Hans-Josef Hellingrath , Heinz Janssen and Hermann Straschitz formed the attack line in the World Cup system that was practiced at the time . The team from "Flinger Broich" finished ninth at the end of the round and Hoffer had scored four goals in 13 games. Because of the upcoming establishment of the new Bundesliga for the 1963/64 season, a new coach came to Düsseldorf for the last round of the old first-class Oberliga West, 1962/63, with Jupp Derwall . Hoffer increased his playing time to 25 league games (1 goal), but with 13th place the coach and club clearly missed the goal of being nominated for inclusion in the Bundesliga. Fortuna, on the other hand, were more successful in the 1962 DFB Cup when they made it to the final on August 29, 1962 in Hanover against 1. FC Nuremberg. In the attack line-up of Steffen, Franz-Josef Wolfframm , Hoffer, Hans-Erwin Volberg and Peter Meyer , the final was lost in extra time with 1: 2 goals.

After the new league structure Hoffer played with Düsseldorf for the 1963/64 season in the second division of the West Regional Football League . In the first two laps, coach Kuno Klötzer made it to third place. When in the world championship year 1965/66 with Waldemar Gerhardt and Werner Biskup two newcomers strengthened the squad, the championship succeeded and the Bundesliga promotion in the games against Hertha BSC , Kickers Offenbach and FK Pirmasens . Hoffer had played all six games in the promotion round and scored three goals. On the seventh match day, October 1, 1966, in a 2-0 home win against Rot-Weiss Essen, the all-round striker made his debut on the left wing in the Bundesliga. Now his teammates Jürgen Koch , Reinhold Straus , Meyer and Jürgen Schult were at his side in the Fortunen attack . At the end of the round followed in the final table of the 1966/67 season , the penultimate place in the table, tied with Rot-Weiss Essen , and thus relegation. Hoffer had scored five goals in 27 Bundesliga games.

In the Regionalliga West, the relegated team needed four attempts to make the BL return. Under the new coach Heinz Lucas it was enough for the runner-up in 1970/71 and Hoffer and colleagues prevailed in the promotion round against Borussia Neunkirchen, FC St. Pauli, 1. FC Nürnberg and Wacker 04 Berlin. After the second rise, Hoffer and his teammates finished the 1971/72 season in 13th place. Düsseldorf stayed in the Bundesliga, Hoffer ended his high-class career in the summer of 1972. He had his last game in the Bundesliga on June 3, 1972 in a 3-1 away win at Arminia Bielefeld alongside teammates Klaus Iwanzik , Leonhard Helmreich , Klaus Budde (midfield) and the two opponents in the attack, Reiner Geye and Dieter Herzog , completed.
