Robert Ovide Bourgon (born March 10, 1956 in Greater Sudbury , Canada ) is a Canadian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Hearst-Moosonee .

Life

Robert Bourgon graduated from Queen's University and the University of Western Ontario with degrees in psychology and philosophy. He then entered the seminary in London and studied at Saint Paul University Ottawa . He holds a Master of Divinity and a PhD in Canon Law . On May 8, 1981, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Sault Sainte Marie . Since April 2012 he has been Vicar General of the Diocese of Sault Sainte Marie.

On February 2, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Hearst and Apostolic Administrator of Moosonee . The Archbishop of Ottawa , Terrence Prendergast , SJ , gave him on April 25 of that year, the episcopal ordination . Co-consecrators were the former bishop of Sault Sainte Marie, Jean-Louis Plouffe , and his predecessor Vincent Cadieux OMI .

With the unification of the two dioceses on December 3, 2018, he was appointed Bishop of Hearst-Moosonee by Pope Francis.
