Robert Brauner (born April 12, 1907 in Herne ; † October 22, 1992 ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1951 to 1974 he was Lord Mayor of the city ​​of Herne .

Life

Robert Brauner was born the son of a miner. He completed an apprenticeship as a painter and later became an independent master of painting and varnishing .

Because of his political convictions, Brauner was persecuted by the National Socialists during the Nazi era. He had to spend several years in prison. In December 1945, the British military government appointed him a member of a 38-member city council of Hernes, whose term of office ended with the first free local elections after the Second World War in October 1946.

Brauner served as Lord Mayor of the city of Herne from October 1951 to December 1974. During his tenure, the town twinning with Hénin-Beaumont was established. After the municipal reform and the associated merger of the city with Wanne-Eickel , he was from January to May 1975 commissioner for the performance of the tasks of the council and the council chairmen. He is buried in the south cemetery in Herne.

Robert Brauner was married to Hedwig Nickel since 1933.
