Robert D. Rowley

Robert Deane Rowley junior (born July 6, 1941 in Cumberland , Maryland , † January 18, 2010 in York , Pennsylvania ) was an Anglican Bishop of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America . He was the 7th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania from 1991 to 2007 .

Rowley studied law at the University of Pittsburgh , where he received his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws . He received his Master of Laws in International Law from George Washington University . In 1965 Rowley was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar, from 1966 he was allowed to practice before the Court of Military Appeals and from 1970 also before the Supreme Court of the United States .

Rowley served as a judge advocate in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1974 and in the US Naval Reserve until his retirement in 1992 . When he retired in 1992 and was released with the rank of captain . Rowley specialized in international law.

In the late 1970s, Rowley decided to become a priest. He attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest and received his Master of Divinity there in 1977 . In June 1977, he became a deacon ordained in January 1978 Rowley was then his ordination . He was ordained bishop in May 1989 by Edmond Lee Browning , Donald James Davis and James Michael Mark Dyer , and was bishop coadjutor until 1991 before he finally became diocesan bishop himself . As such, he was a member of the Presiding Bishop's Council of Advice from 1993 to 2002 and was President of Province III of the Episcopal Church at the same time. In 1997 he was one of the candidates for the office of Presiding Bishop , into which Frank Griswold was eventually elected.

Rowley died on January 18, 2010 at the age of 68. On January 22nd, he was buried in Arlington National Cemetery . He was married and had two children, a son and a daughter.
