Live and act

Robert Essl was born in Hermagor im Gailtal in 1980 , where he grew up and attended school. After successfully completing school, he began an apprenticeship as a car mechanic , worked for some time in retail, trained as a web designer and lived in Vienna for several years . In 2004 he came to photography during a one-year break in Australia , where he mainly took architecture and landscape photos. A year later he bought a new digital camera in Vienna, but it was stolen after just four weeks. However, since he was already considering a career as a photographer at that time, he saved up on a SLR camera in the following months and began photographing fashion models in 2006 . In Vienna he then studied corporate management for one and a half semesters at the FHWien , but finished this course to devote himself entirely to photography.

In 2009 he left home to take photos in Milan and at the fashion week there. He later lived in New York City , Paris and London, among others, and took photos in various places in Brazil , but also came back regularly to Austria to take photos here. During his work he has already had personalities such as Adriana Lima , George Clooney , Claudia Schiffer and Scarlett Johansson in front of the camera. His photos have been published many times on the covers of well-known fashion newspapers. His friends included the designer Massimiliano Giornetti and the blogger Chiara Ferragni .

After the police in Arnoldstein had received the news on May 11, 2019 that an orphaned vehicle had been standing in a parking lot on the Alpenstrasse near Dobratsch for around a week, a helicopter search flight was initiated to find the owner of the vehicle. After this flight was unsuccessful, a corpse was discovered the following day during another helicopter flight in impassable terrain on the Dobratsch south face near the Rote Wand . This was recovered after the ascent of the mountain rescue . The next day it was announced that the rescued person was Robert Essl, who had only recently moved to Villach. According to media reports, he should have crashed around 200 meters. Only two months earlier he had been named Carinthian of the day by the Carinthian edition of the Kleine Zeitung .
