Robert Forsch (born November 21, 1870 in Struschau , Vitebsk Governorate , Russian Empire ; † September 8, 1948 in Berlin ) was a German actor from Russia and also worked as a character batch in the film of the Third Reich.

Life

Forsch was born in the then German town of Struschau in the Russian province. The latter was renamed Strūžāni around 1920 , resettled in 1940, completely destroyed in World War II and only re-established under the Latvian name in 1956 after Forsch's death.

Robert Forsch had studied at the university for two years before joining the theater in 1894. He gained his first experience as an acting trainee at the Royal Drama Theater in Berlin, but at the beginning of his career mainly worked in the provinces. For example, before the First World War, Forsch appeared at the United Leipzig theaters as a dramaturge and director and in the same position at Cologne's Deutsches Theater and Metropoltheater . At the same time, he continued to be active as an actor, both in batch and medium-sized character roles. In the following years, Forsch was active on numerous theaters in Berlin. With Lupu Pick and Paul Bildt he formed the acting board of directors of the small theater Unter den Linden and in 1921 was one of the founders of the Steglitz Schloßparktheater alongside Paul Henckels . He also played at the Deutsches Theater and the Renaissance Theater in the 1920s .

He was seen, for example, as a friar in Lessing's Nathan the Wise , as an organ player in Georg Büchner's Woyzeck , as Anton in Gerhart Hauptmann's Und Pippa dances! , as the ox driver in George Bernard Shaw's Androclus and the Lion and as a farmer and fortune teller in Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra .

Largely unemployed since the early 1930s - for a time, Forsch only appeared on stage at the Marburg summer theater - the acting veteran earned a regular extra income from the middle of the same decade, sometimes with tiny appearances in talkies . So he gave a businessman in The Higher Orders , a Guardian in Promise Me Nothing , a Passenger in On A Silk Thread , a Prison Guard in Schneider Wibbel, and an Auctioneer in Lady Windermere's Fan .

During the war years he found smaller jobs at the theater ( Kammerspiele des Deutschen Theater ) and in film. However, his fine art was highly valued by great directors like Jürgen Fehling . After the war he played at the Deutsches Theater, alternating with Eduard von Winterstein, again as the friar at the side of Paul Wegener in Lessing's Nathan the Wise .

He got his first major role in the film in 1946. He played the watchmaker Mondschein in the first German post-war film The Murderers Are Among Us .
