Robert Jervis

Robert Jervis.

Robert Jervis (* 1940 ) is an American political scientist who teaches as a professor at Columbia University . He specializes in international relations . In 2000/2001 he was President of the American Political Science Association .

Life

After graduating from Oberlin College with a bachelor's degree in 1962, Jervis moved to the University of California, Berkeley , where he took his master’s degree in 1963 and obtained his Ph.D. received his doctorate . After that he was first assistant professor and then from 1972 to 1974 associate professor at Harvard University . At the same time, he was an International Affairs Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations think tank in 1971/72 . In 1973/74 he was visiting associate professor at Yale University , and from 1974 to 1980 he was professor of political science at the University of California, Los Angeles . In spring 1977 he was visiting professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . Since 1980 he has been Adlai E. Stevenson Professor of International Politics at Columbia University.

In addition to international politics in general, Jervis deals with security policy , decision-making, and conflict and cooperation theories. In doing so, he uses psychological and game theory models.

In 1986, Jervis was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , and in 1990 he received the Grawemeyer Award in the ideas improving world order category
