Robert Karger (born June 24, 1874 in Hohndorf , Habelschwerdt district ; † October 17, 1946 in Amecke / Sauerland ) was a Silesian dialect poet, writer , journalist and private tutor .

Robert Karger was a teacher in Habelschwerdt and worked as such in Glatz and in Upper Silesia . From 1923 until his expulsion in 1946 he lived in Neurode .

From 1911 to 1942 he was with August Walzel editor and publisher of the popular folk calendar Guda Obend , which contributed to the spread of poems and folk music in Glatzer dialect .

Author of numerous poems, both in High German and in Glatzer dialect. He published the volumes of poetry:

  • Schniegläckla (Snowdrop, 1910)
  • Jam (1917)
  • Marjasonne (morning sun)
  • A Zoaspel poems from a Gleetscha Barja (1921)
  • A holb Schook aale gleetsche Leutla (1925) and
  • Pauerbrot (farmer's bread , 1929).

The Bargloft compilation was prepared for printing and contained over 400 poems, but was lost in 1945. Some of the poet's works were set to music as songs by composers: (e.g. Paul Elsner , Es lei ei a Barja , Anton Günther Om'f Ufabänkla ). Art: Knieckebään family (1931) Lottery and love (1931) Zwee Jost Poarla . One of his most famous pieces, Der Granzbook , was developed by Georg Hartmann as a stage piece with music (premiered in 1924).
