Robert Löffler (journalist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Löffler (born May 8, 1931 in Vienna ; † December 27, 2016 there ), pseudonym Telemax, was an Austrian journalist for the Kronen Zeitung .

Life

Born in Vienna, he spent his childhood and adolescence mainly in Gösing and Kirchberg am Wagram , where his father worked as a teacher, which he often referred to in the Telemax diary . A grandfather and a great-grandfather were also teachers. After graduating from the Stiftsgymnasium Melk , he studied newspaper science at the University of Vienna . In 1954 he became editor of the Viennese daily newspaper " Bild-Telegraf " under editor-in-chief Gerd Bacher , who later became general manager of ORF , Austria's public broadcaster. Bacher invented the name Telemax for the daily television review of his paper, which was initially written by several members of the editorial team in turns.

When the Bild-Telegraf was discontinued in 1958, Bacher founded the daily newspaper " Express " with Fritz Molden , in which the daily Telemax column was continued - from 1960 only by Löffler, to whom the column's title became a pseudonym. When the Express was discontinued in 1971, the column and author were taken over by the "Kronen Zeitung", where Telemax was published until October 29, 2016. In the night of December 26th to 27th, 2016, Löffler died after a short, serious illness.

Robert Löffler was buried in the Gersthofer Friedhof in Vienna in an honorary grave (group L, number 29).

As “probably the most unknown celebrity in the country”, Löffler wrote philosophical reflections on the day, which referred “somehow” and with mild irony to broadcasts on the ORF, and rather criticized language. For a long time, the “Telemax Diary” appeared in the Sunday supplement of the Kronen Zeitung , which was much more extensive than the daily newspaper glossary.

“As the intellectual fig leaf of Austria's most widely read tabloid, Robert Löffler has an exotic special position. Even the esteemed Max Goldt praises him for his stylistic delicacy and thematic self-sufficiency. Which spoonbills in the classical properties feature would make no bad figure. "

The author was awarded the Nestroy Ring of the City of Vienna in 1983 , and in 1991 he received the Gold Medal of Honor of the City of Vienna .

His longtime colleague Susanne Heinrich paid tribute to his intellectual, philosophical and ironic texts in an obituary published in the Kronen Zeitung :

“Every column is a little masterpiece that he personally supervised from the first word to the last proofreading. Among his countless fans are many celebrities such as the cabaret artist Josef Hader (he is also a graduate of the Melker Stiftsgymnasium, which connects!), Who enjoyed the appreciation of Löffler. And it made Löffler proud that the young colleague read his texts on stage. He was proud, but again not so 'cocky' that he would have accepted his invitation to a reading. "
