Robert Louis Whelan

Robert Louis Whelan SJ (born April 16, 1912 in Wallace (Idaho) , Idaho , † September 15, 2001 ) was Bishop of Fairbanks .

Life

Robert Louis Whelan joined the Jesuit order in and received on 17 June 1944, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 6, 1967, Coadjutor Bishop of Fairbanks and Titular Bishop of Sicilibba . The Apostolic Delegate to the United States, Archbishop Luigi Raimondi , ordained him episcopally on February 22 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Anchorage , John Joseph Thomas Ryan , and the Bishop of Fairbanks , Francis Doyle Gleeson SJ.

With the resignation of Francis Doyle Gleeson on November 15, 1968, he followed this as Bishop of Fairbanks.
